Governor Evers was at the Green Bay Police Department Tuesday afternoon to announce $50 million in funding for police, sheriff’s offices, and criminal justice initiatives.
The governor’s office says the money will also be used to help relieve the backlog of criminal cases and shortages in the offices of public defenders and prosecutors. According to the governor $19 million will go to local and tribal law enforcement agencies for training, recruitment bonuses, community policing and other needs.
Evers says the money will be distributed based on population and need, how communities relate to crime above the average.
The Appleton Police Department will get $225,617.556 while the Outagamie County Sheriff’s Office will receive $144,744.05.
