Appleton, Wis–Both political parties were active in the Appleton School Board election this spring. Campaign finance reports show the candidates received donations from both the Democratic and Republican parties, along with political action committees. According to the pre-election reports filed at the end of March, Jim Bowman, Jason Kolpack, and James Bacon received in-kind donations from the Democratic Party of Wisconsin of $1.87 for “Consulting Services”. According to Bacon’s report, the service was scripts for phone calls to voters. Nick Ross received an in-kind donation of $349 for “campaign software”–while Pheng Thao reported $883 from the party for “Mailing Services”.
State Representative Lee Snodgrass, who is also vice chair of the state Democratic Party, also made cash donations to Ross and Bacon. Thao and Ross each received $781 in services from the Wisconsin Working Families Party for “texting voters”, while Bacon received a $1,000 donation from the Leaders in Education PAC.
Meanwhile, the Republican Party of Wisconsin provided a $1,000 donation to Deb Truyman’s campaign. While Andrea Klitzke received a thousand dollars from the Outagamie County G-O-P–while the state party provided her with $241 in texting services. State Representative Dave Murphy made a cash donation to Klitzke as well.
