(KAUKAUNA, WI)–A local organization dedicated to suicide prevention says high profile suicides, like the recent death of country music star Naomi Judd, bring the conversations about suicide front-and-center. Judd’s death followed a long fight with depression. It also happened prior to a highly promoted national concert tour with her daughter, Wynnona. Barb Bigalke, the Executive Director of the Center for Suicide Awareness, says there are extreme moods people can show that indicate suicidal thoughts.
Judd was 76 when she took her own life following a long fight with depression. Bigalke says elder suicide is daily occurrence. She says simple reassurances can help older people who feel like they’ve got nothing left to give.
The Center for Suicide Awareness has a Hope Line for people in need of help. That can be reached by texting 7-4-1-7-4-1.
