OCONTO, Wis–The Oconto County District Attorney says he will seek an appeal of a judge’s ruling throwing out criminal charges against Suring School Superintendent Kelly Casper. Judge Mark Hammer ruled on Tuesday that prosecutors had failed to provide enough evidence that Casper committed the felony crime of False Imprisonment when she took six female students to a bathroom at Suring High School to conduct a search for vaping materials back in January.
The state Department of Justice would handle any appeals of that ruling. Casper had been on paid administrative leave since the charges were filed. She has announced plans to leave the district this summer.
