MENDON, Mo. — Appleton Boy Scouts play a major rescue role after their Amtrak train crashes and derails in Missouri.
Members of troops 73 and 12 were on their way home from a backpacking trip when the train struck a dump truck Monday afternoon.
Dan Skrypczak, scout master of Troop 73, describes what some of the Scouts did after the crash:
Two adults on the trip were hospitalized; one with a cracked vertebrae and the other with seven broken ribs and a bruised lung. The remaining 16 Scouts and six adults had cuts and bruises but nothing serious.
Three people died as a result of the crash.
