APPLETON, Wis. — Two people are hurt in separate Labor Day fires in Appleton.
The first was reported around 1 p.m. in the 3000 block of S. Chain Drive.
Firefighters arrived to find the only person in the home unconscious. They were taken to the hospital with unspecified injuries.
Firefighters say unattended food that charred on the stove caused a light to moderate amount of smoke.
Another fire was reported shortly after in the 200 block of E. Atlantic Street.
Crews arrived to find smoke coming from the attic vents and on two sides of the duplex.
Everyone inside was able to evacuate, and one person was checked for minor smoke inhalation.
The fire caused significant damage and left the duplex uninhabitable.
The cause has not been determined.
