APPLETON, Wis–Valley Transit is moving forward with plans for a new center in downtown Appleton. The bus system is looking to purchase the lot adjacent to the current transit center in the 200-block of North Oneida Street for construction of a mixed use development that would include apartments on floors above the bus station.
Community Development Director Karen Harkness says they are learning lessons from other Wisconsin cities that have tried the same thing.
Valley Transit is offering $150,00 for the lot, along with an additional $50,000 for environmental remediation. The Appleton Redevelopment Authority has approved the sale of that land.
