OSHKOSH, WI — Winnebago County will dissolve the Diversity Affairs Commission. The board of supervisors approves that resolution Tuesday on a 19-14 vote. The final vote came after more than an hour of discussion. Supervisor Kay Horan, a commission member who co-sponsored the motion to dissolve, says the D-A-C cannot function as it is.
“Everything has been done online and we were wanting to have in-person meetings, ” Horan said. “We had a difficult time coming up with a time that we could all get together. And in fact, we had one meeting and it was almost canceled because there wasn’t a quorum.”
Supervisor Jacob Floam, a co-sponsor of the motion to dissolve, believes it’s time for the county to come to the same conclusion reached by DAC members.
The commission itself has met multiple times to dissolve itself, ” Floam said. “And I think we should respect that request. And I think we should have the opportunity to have the say on this tonight (Tuesday).”
The resolution to dissolve the Diversity Affair Commission does allow for re-evaluation of the commission to better fit community needs. It also says there are other public organizations that have programs to support diversity.
