APPLETON, Wis–A resolution introduced by five members of the Appleton Common Council would effectively ban the use of chemical fertilizers or pesticides on residential properties. Alders Israel Del Toro, Vered Meltzer, Denise Fenton, Alex Schultz and Matthew Wolff have signed onto the measure which initially claims to “educate” property owners.
But within the resolution are limitations on the use of commercial fertilizers and pesticides to only days where it is not raining or there is no chance of rain, winds are less than five miles an hour, and temperatures are not above 80-degrees.

According to data from the National Weather Service, no days from April through October of last year would have met those qualifications. Those using such chemicals would also be required to post a sign detailing what had been applied to the yard.
The resolution would apply to all properties of less than five acres. The measure has been directed to city staff.
