I spend a lot of time on this program talking about the short comings of the 24 hour news cycle. The term “fake news” gets thrown around quite a bit, and while I do not believe that the news we see on mainstream networks is fabricated, I do think there is a pretty obvious slant to the reporting on every network, despite claims of fair coverage.
Now that a recent poll shows that over half of all Americans have lost trust in the national news networks, it seems like I’m not the only one with this belief.
In an effort to help people circumvent some of this questionable coverage, I have decided to start spotlighting reporting that I believe provides some insight to the stories that get lost in the hectic nature of a 24-hour news cycle.
Today, I chatted with Jessica Corbett, senior editor with Common Dreams about what the reporting culture is like where she works and what goes into her process when choosing what to cover. We also discussed a couple articles she wrote about American’s trust in media, the Starbucks union, and carbon capture.
