APPLETON, Wis–The Appleton Area School District saw more incidents of student seclusion and restraint last year.

A report from the district lists 313-incidents where students were placed in seclusion in the 2022-23 school year. That is up from 277 incidents the year before.
The number of times students were placed in restraints in the 2022-23 school year was 107, down one incident from the year before. Seventy-six students had to be secluded, while 74-students were involved in restraint incidents.
Students with disabilities or individual educational plans made up the majority of students that were secluded or restrained. The Appleton School District has been increasing its non-violent crisis intervention training for teachers and other staff.
