Dave Edwards and It’s Just my Take 1-19-24
We get some snow, we deal with it. In cities that do not normally get snow, that’s a whole different matter!
Take for instance a commute the other day in Houston. Obviously, a city whose residents are not used to driving on snowy, slippery roads. Allow me to share a story of one frustrated commuter.
A gentleman tells the story of leaving his office and was simply trying to make the 22-mile trip to his home, usually a 35 minute drive. Icy conditions left cars spinning in all directions. A major accident occurred on his route and a massive backup ensued. Four hours in and nobody was moving. People were honking their horns, as if the drivers in front of them could move!
Now it gets worse. People’s cars started running out of gas, there was no food and…no bathroom handy. Finally, a break in the logjam and the driver could get home…6.5 hours after he left! You could have flown from Houston to New York City and back…. in less time!
Sure, it’s no picnic when we see brake lights ahead of us and wonder how long this backup is going to last. One can’t help but speculate what traffic will be like when the 1-41 project begins this year. Hopefully, nothing like what Houston just experienced!
