WINNEBAGO COUNTY, Wis. — One person is dead following an officer-involved shooting in Winnebago County.
The state Division of Criminal Investigation says a North Fond du Lac police officer tried to stop a vehicle around 9:40 p.m. Friday when the driver took off.
The pursuit continued along Interstate 41 into Winnebago County. Tire deflation devices were used to disable the suspect’s car.
The driver reportedly called 911 and told dispatchers they had a gun. The person then exited the vehicle and approached the officer, who opened fire. The suspect was declared dead at the scene.
The officer has been placed on administrative leave pending the results of an investigation.
The names of those involved have not been released.
