APPLETON, Wis–A man charged in connection with a cold case murder in Grand Chute is competent to stand trial. Doctors believe Gene Meyer is able to assist in his own defense against charges of First Degree Murder and First Degree Sexual Assault.
Meyer is accused of raping and killing Betty Rolf before dumping her body under an overpass in November of 1988. He was charged in December of 2022 after his D-N-A was allegedly matched to evidence collected at the crime scene.
Meyer is scheduled to stand trial April lst.
