Dave Edwards and It’s Just my Take, 2-23-24
We usually do not go east when it comes to vacation, unless we fly to South Carolina or Florida. This past week reminded me why that’s the case!
Don’t get me wrong–there is plenty of beauty, historic sites and great golf in our eastern states. But getting there by car is not a real pleasure.
Getting to our vacation destination in western North Carolina required driving through Milwaukee, Chicago(ugh), Indianapolis, Louisville, Lexington, Knoxville and Asheville.
Seven medium to large metros with tons of auto and truck traffic, some inclement weather and the usual amount of ignorance and misplaced bravado on behalf of some of the drivers. Not exactly a picnic, but you know how you feel when you get there? Exhausted, grouchy and in need of a special beverage.
Did we enjoy our time in North Carolina…sure, it was great! But, the dread of knowing we had 900+ miles back on those same roads was no picnic. Remarkably, we had very few major slowdowns, but the grind of the long and winding road can wear you down.
Now, about that special beverage…
