APPLETON, Wis–Electric rental scooters may not return to Appleton this year. The Department of Public Works is recommending the city not renew its contract with Bird, who has supplied the rental scooters the last two years.

Director Danielle Block points out that Bird filed for bankruptcy last year, has failed to pay the fees it owes the city for 2023, and that the scooters generated a number of complaints from residents. The Appleton Municipal Services Committee will consider renewing Bird’s annual contract on Monday.
