Dave Edwards and It’s Just my Take, 4-19-24
I will admit that when Masters week finishes, I then have to return to normal. Normal being less than 7 hours a day watching golf, further indenting my couch at the same time my waistline goes in the other direction. I have a few key points from the week.
First and obvious, way to go Scottie Scheffler. Another green jacket in the wardrobe. And, how fun to see LIV Golf dude Jon Rahm have to slide the coat on you after you whooped him by 20 shots! Good luck in fatherhood as his wife Meredith is due very soon.
Second, who was producing this calamity for CBS? The music constantly drowned out the commentators, which in Ian Baker-Finch’s case was a good thing. But that said, is it time for Jim Nance to take the same exit as Vern Lundquist? From claiming the wrong player was in the lead to excessively flowery(!) descriptions of almost everything, the broadcast kowtows way too often to the stuffy Masters elite.
And finally, have we witnessed the last really good golf from Tiger Woods? As much as we thirst for the old days, those days appear to be gone. Tiger can still stir the echoes for a few holes, but has shown no evidence of sustaining that over 72 grinding holes. The surgeries and accidents have just taken too much of a toll.
Some say golf’s luster has dulled with the LIV golfers departure from the PGA Tour. Sure, it’s not the same….but it’s still damn good!
