Dave Edwards and It’s Just my Take, 5-24-24
It’s Memorial Day weekend. What does that mean to you?
For most, it’s a chance to stretch your legs and enjoy a 3-day weekend. Food, relaxation and maybe some serious recreation. For others, it’s a time to remember why we have this day in the first place.
Memorial Day is a federal holiday in the United States for honoring and mourning the U.S. military personnel who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces.
This differs with Veteran’s Day, which we celebrate in November, where we honor ALL who served in the military, whether wartime or not, or perished in battle.
Appleton has a wonderful tradition of honoring those that have served and died with its Memorial Day parade and remembrance this Monday. In June, we celebrate Old Glory with one the finest flag day parades in all the land.
Sure, take some time to relax and enjoy the weekend. Then, take a moment to remember why we have that freedom in the first place.
