Dave Edwards and It’s Just my Take
Say it ain’t go Joe
7-3-24
It’s the question of our time…should President Joe Biden stay in the race for a second term, or, following his very poor performance in his first debate with equally-unstable Donald Trump, bow out in favor of a younger, more vibrant candidate. Tough call, but here’s a thought or two.
He could stay in, but that runs the risk of further embarrassment in the second debate or just campaigning in general. Joe has shown real signs of slippage over the last few years. This job takes a toll on you. I think it’s safe to say his cognitive abilities will continue to erode, not improve.
Should Biden bow out, the road to the White House is far from a sure thing. Who would be the front-runner? Is there enough time for the American public to develop a desire to vote for him or her? Would the convention in August create more confusion than certainty? And, would most strong candidates want to sit this one out and run post-Trump in 2028?
Honestly, I think Biden will stubbornly stick this out, finish his run to election day and likely lose more support along the way to a humbling defeat on November 5th. Recent polls show just 27% of registered voters feel he has the cognitive ability to do this job.
Now, about the other guy….
