Jonathan Krause, host of WHBY’s Your News Now, spoke with Mandy Kimes of Ripon, Wisconsin at the 2024 Republican National Convention in July.
Kimes discussed the historical significance of the schoolhouse, where in 1854, a group of men gathered to oppose the Kansas-Nebraska Act, ultimately founding the Republican Party. She emphasized the importance of preserving the historic site, which has been relocated multiple times but remains well-maintained. Kimes also brought a replica of the schoolhouse created by local high school students to the convention, describing it as a symbol of Ripon’s proud history. Despite other locations also claiming ties to the GOP’s origins, Kimes explained Ripon’s unique role in the party’s formation, emphasizing the ongoing efforts needed to fundraise for the preservation of the schoolhouse.
