JUNEAU, Wis. — A man from India will spend nine months in jail for scamming residents of Dodge County.
Laxit Patel was sentenced on one count of conspiracy to commit money laundering.
Patel claimed to be an employee of the Federal Trade Commission, calling Wisconsin residents to say that their Social Security numbers had been stolen.
He told the victims they needed to empty their bank accounts and provide him with the money, so new numbers and accounts could be created.
