Dave Edwards and Beyond the News–IT took :65!!
IT is how long it took PGA pro Tom Kim to get up to his golf ball on the 6th hole Sunday at Pebble Beach and actually pull the trigger. And no, this does not include the pre-shot routine of checking the lie, chatting with his caddie, checking the wind, deciding which club to hit, chatting with his caddie again and then, finally grabbing said club and stepping up for a few hearty practice swings and then the interminable time over the ball!
Oh, and by the way…he hit a miserable shot way right and into the hazard on the par 5 hole.
Why the beef today? Because it is making golf aggravating or downright impossible to watch at times. Case in point: it took the final group of the recent event at Torrey Pines in San Diego 5 hours and 29 minutes to play the final round! They clocked in at an hour just to play the first 3 holes!! Noted NBC broadcaster and former player, Dottie Pepper, chimed in during the round to berate the golfers for their slow play.
In football, there is a play clock…baseball now has a pitch clock. If you don’t get a shot off in the NBA within 24 seconds, sorry, bucko, no soup for you! PGA Tour—it is time to start keeping time! When it is your turn to hit, you get :30, period!
Oh, and don’t even get me started on the horrendous “Aim Point” putting routine that has trampled greens and reduced players to barely-moving molasses!
You are on the clock now to get this right. If you do not, many of us will be going left to return to the main menu.
