FOND DU LAC COUNTY, Wis. — A police chase in Fond du Lac County sees the suspect drive through the airport before being apprehended.
A sheriff’s deputy spotted a vehicle that had previously been involved in a brief pursuit in Grand Chute early Monday morning along Interstate 41 around 8 a.m.
The suspect reportedly took off.
The chase continued along Highway 151 into Lamartine before returning to Fond du Lac, where the car entered the county airport and started driving on the taxiways. Air traffic at the airport was halted as a precaution.
At one point, a woman inside the vehicle called 9-1-1, pleading to be let out of the car.
The suspect drove through a field trying to get back onto I-41, but a deputy was able to use a pursuit intervention technique maneuver and spin out the car. The driver and two passengers were taken into custody.
Investigators say the trio was making plans to get into a shootout with officers during the chase.
A backpack containing drug paraphernalia and a loaded handgun was thrown from the vehicle but was recovered by a canine unit.
Criminal charges are pending.
Four squad cars were damaged during the pursuit. One deputy was treated for minor injuries caused by a collision and was released.
