SUAMICO, Wis–The NEW Zoo in Suamico is giving up on efforts to re-capture an escaped river otter. “Louie” the otter got out his enclosure with his mate, “Ophelia”, during a snowstorm in March.
Ophelia was recaptured a few weeks later thanks to neighbors reporting on her whereabouts–but Louie has not been spotted as often.
Zoo officials point out that since Louie was born and lived in the wild before coming to the zoo, he likely has the skills to survive on his own.
