GREEN BAY, Wis. — A Nekoosa man accused of shooting and killing a man while driving along Highway 172 in Ashwaubenon will undergo a mental competency exam.
The defense for Ji-Gwe-Mko Layton believe he is not able to assist in his own defense on one count of first-degree intentional homicide.
Layton allegedly shot a 60-year-old Wood County man to death in a vehicle traveling along 172 on Aug. 15, resulting in a crash.
Layton was arrested after running away from the vehicle armed with a rifle.
He faces life in prison if convicted.
