In our January “Focus on Health” Hayley was joined by Dr. Santi Budiasih, Pediatrician with ThedaCare Physicians Pediatrics–Appleton, to talk about why it’s still worthwhile to get vaccinated against the flu and other respiratory illnesses.
Dr. Budiashih shared that flu season often peaks in February, meaning vaccination now still offers strong protection. Even if you do get sick, the vaccine reduces the risk of severe illness, hospitalization and death. This year’s vaccine protects against multiple strains, even as new variants emerge.
Dr. Budiasih also recommends talking to your provider about protection against:
- Pneumonia (pneumococcal disease)
- RSV — especially for infants, older adults and pregnant individuals
- Pertussis (whooping cough)
- COVID-19
Many of these vaccines can be given during the same visit.
