APPLETON, Wis. — The Appleton Police Department is mourning the loss of a retired lieutenant who died in a house fire last week.
Eighty-six-year-old Ronnie McIntire called 911 to report a fire in the kitchen of his Meade Street home on Feb. 18.
Firefighters arrived on scene to find smoke coming from the roof and began search and rescue efforts. McIntire was removed from the home, treated at the scene and then taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
In a statement, Appleton police say “Ronnie holds a special place in the heart of the Appleton Police Department. After serving in the United States Marine Corps, he served 36 years as an Appleton Police officer, retiring in 1999 as a Lieutenant. After retirement, he continued to serve the community as a school crossing guard up until his passing.”
The investigation into the fire is ongoing.
