APPLETON, Wis. — Hundreds of Fox Valley residents are struggling to read, write, speak and communicate effectively.
According to the first State of Literacy Report published by the nonprofit group Fox Valley Literacy, 37 percent of the roughly 800 people surveyed indicated they struggle to read everyday documents, 36 percent said they have difficulty writing emails and 40 percent reported having trouble communicating clearly with others in English.
Executive Director Brian Leone Tracy says the most concerning area is those who struggle with day-to-day literacy……….
Forty-seven percent also indicated they struggle to understand healthcare information, 48 percent said they have difficulty managing finances and 41 percent reported having trouble using technology. Tracy adds that helping those who struggle with digital devices is a high priority……….
Fox Valley Literacy plans to address the struggles by establishing partnerships with other local organizations.
