(APPLETON, WI) — Heavy rains cause flooding, result in rescue calls and force evacuations throughout Northeast Wisconsin and the Fox Cities region.
Waupaca County issues a warning about a dam. Emergency Management Director Zac Van Asten says the Big Falls Dam along the Little Wolf River is in danger of failure.
Residents in low lying areas below the dam are urged to move to higher ground immediately. A Flash Flood Warning is in effect in that area until late Tuesday afternoon.
The Weyauwega Fire Department is helping to evacuate people living along Guth, Kurth, Deer Haven, and Ona Pines roads–along with County Highway “F” near the river.
Heavy rains have caused serious flooding in Clintonville. Police Chief Craig Freitag says evacuations are planned in neighborhoods near the Pigeon River.
Chief Freitag also says a failure of the dam in Marion may send more water to Clintonville.
Clintonville schools are serving as shelters for residents impacted by the flooding.
Meanwhile, New London officials are urging Town of Mukwa residents along and downstream of the Little Wolf River to evacuate immediately and move to higher ground.
And in Weyauwega, officials are urging residents along the Wolf to do the same.
Meanwhile, the village of Suamico declares a state of emergency due to flooding.
Captain Tracy Buzzell says his crews have conducted a couple of rescues already Tuesday morning–including three people trapped in a home along the 3700 block of Stream Road–and a school bus driver.
Riverside Drive between Rock Bottom Court and St Pats Drive will be closed for an extended period of time due to the road being washed out.
Wrightstown officials are warning people to stay away from the Fox River. The river is now overflowing its banks and the current is much stronger than usual. Mueller Park has been closed as a precaution.
