WASHINGTON — The National Transportation Safety Board blames pilot error for a fatal crash at the 2024 EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh.
Sean Tommervik of Philadelphia and James Sullivan of Brooklyn, New York, died when their single-engine aircraft went down in a field about a mile-and-a-half south of Wittman Regional Airport in July of 2024.
According to the NTSB report, Tommervik was ordered by air traffic control to complete a wide turn while on approach to the airport to make way for two landing warbirds.
Tommervik failed to maintain proper airspeed during the turn, went into a stall and crashed.
