GREEN BAY, Wis–The National Weather Service releases more data on the July 27th tornado that hit the Fox Cities.
The NWS estimates the category EF-3 twister initially touched down at the intersection of West Harvest and North McIntosh Drives in Appleton at 11:56 am. It then followed a southerly path for just over 12-miles, forming a waterspout on northern Lake Winnebago before dissipating at 12:22 pm.
Top winds are estimated at 140-miles an hour.
At it’s peak, the tornado was an estimated mile wide as it crossed State Highway 441. That would make it one of the largest tornadoes to ever hit Northeast Wisconsin in recorded history.
