Some local pastors believe more black men need to be in influential positions in the Appleton area.
Pastor Charles Butler of Breakthrough Covenant Church in downtown Appleton hosted a forum Tuesday night with four pastors of color, and Police Chief Todd Thomas.
Butler believes they would have a big impact on young men. He says he was watching a TV show with his 15-year-old son, and his son thought it was weird to see a black male teacher.
Butler says they’re concerned about the futures of young black men, but they’re not putting the children in front of men that look like them. He believes in school districts, government, and other places, people are speaking for black men, when they’re available to speak for themselves.
The organizers of the protests in downtown Appleton also gave emotional speeches at the forum.
