Governor Evers says a staffer recorded a phone call with top Republicans, because the person wanted help taking notes.
He won’t talk publicly about personnel issues, but the governor adds the practice has ended after that one time.
Evers says he didn’t know the call was being recorded because he was on the phone in a different place than the person recording it.
Evers was talking with Assembly Speaker Robin Vos and Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald about the state’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. It was held the day after the state Supreme Court ended the “safer at home” order.
The audio was released, under the open records law.
Evers and the Department of Health Services also wouldn’t reveal what led to the departures of two top officials during the coronavirus pandemic.
Health Officer Jeanne Ayers was asked to resign in May. Nicole Safar took a job with a liberal advocacy group.
