Governor Evers is introducing a series of police reforms, including bans on chokeholds and no-knock search warrants.
He also wants to make it a crime to discriminate against someone, by calling the police on them when they haven’t done anything wrong.
Evers released the proposals on Juneteenth.
Another would require all departments to have a use-of-force policy, and post it online. Every year, all officers would also go through at least eight hours of training on use-of-force options, and de-escalation techniques.
Assembly Democrats and the Black Legislative Caucus want Evers to call a special session, but he hasn’t yet.
