The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers season is officially canceled.
While that was a foregone conclusion, Minor League Baseball made the announcement this afternoon.
During the major league season, the Milwaukee Brewers will use Fox Cities Stadium as a training site for about 30 players not on the active roster.
Timber Rattlers President Rob Zerjav says they’ll play some intrasquad games to stay ready. He hopes to be able to sell tickets to those games on a limited basis.
It will be the first time since 1957 that there won’t be a traditional minor league season, with an affiliated team, in the Appleton area.
The Timber Rattlers are also holding a variety of events at the ballpark, including movies on the scoreboard and fireworks.
