Workers started replacing the roof of a home in the Fond du Lac area for a veteran and his family.
Phillip Opalewski was in the Navy for four years, and he served during Desert Storm.
His wife, Lisa, is battling cancer and she learned about the “Put a Roof Over a Veterans Head” contest. She says the medical bills are insane, and they wouldn’t be able to pay for a new roof. She decided to apply, and asked to give him a gift for everything he’s done for her and their two sons.
She says their old roof was starting to leak in one of her son’s bedrooms.
