Assembly Republicans want to set up a task force to look at racial disparities and police policies, before taking up the governor’s proposals.
Majority Leader Jim Steineke of Vandenbroek believes they should take a broad approach. He doesn’t think that they’ll take any action in the short term. He thinks they need to deal with the problems on multiple fronts.
Steineke says the issues include crime, poverty in urban areas, and access to a quality education. He wants everyone get a chance to be heard, and they hope to get everyone on board.
