Governor Evers wants state lawmakers to work on police reforms right away.
He’s calling a special session for next Monday, on a series of bills he proposed in June.
The decision comes in the wake of yesterday’s police shooting of a Black man in Kenosha. Jacob Blake was shot several times in the back, with his three children in the car.
Evers says leaders show up and do the work that the people demand of them.
One the proposals from the governor would require each officer to have at least eight hours of training every year on use-of-force options, and de-escalation techniques. He also wants to ban police from using chokeholds, and no-knock search warrants.
