State Attorney General Josh Kaul says looking at the types of cases that are prosecuted could be one way to address systemic racism.
He says they could target the leaders of large-scale drug rings, instead of just going after low-level dealers. He believes breaking them up would also make communities safer.
Kaul says they need to rethink the approach the state is taking with the criminal justice system. He says Wisconsin has the highest incarceration rate for Black men in the country, and that’s a clear sign something needs to be done.
Kaul also supports reforming the bail system, and setting up a hate crime hotline.
