The plans for the Appleton Public Library are changing, but Mayor Jake Woodford says they should be able to incorporate a lot of the work that’s already been done.
The city decided two years ago to be part of a mixed-use development on the Soldiers Square parking ramp site. Now Woodford is proposing to build a new or expanded library at the current location.
Woodford wants to hire an architect next year to look at options for using parts of the current library in an expansion or building new.
Library Director Colleen Rortvedt supports the shift to the existing library site. She’s been involved with planning for more than a decade. She says it’s been difficult to find a different site because things out of their control were delaying the library project.
Rortvedt thinks the project would be an opportunity to do something great north of College Avenue.
