The number of domestic violence murders went up in the state in 2019.
End Domestic Abuse Wisconsin reports 54 people were killed, compared to 39 in 2018.
Homicide Prevention Program Director Sara Krall says the totals have varied in recent years, but guns remain a common weapon. They were used in 55 percent of cases last year, and some were able to get a gun, despite it being illegal for them to have one.
Eighteen of the cases ended in a murder-suicide, including several in northeast Wisconsin.
