There are plans to have a sexual assault survivors monument in the future Ellen Kort Peace Park in Appleton.
Chelsea Bongert hopes to raise $200,000 to build a gazebo along the Fox River. She says they want it to be a place that’s inviting and reflective.
Bongert says the goal is to create a beacon of light and hope in the community. She thinks it would also tell survivors that they matter.
Appleton’s city council is on board with the idea.
Ellen Kort Peace Park will be in the flats, to the east of the Atlas Mill building. Work on the first phase of the park isn’t expected to start until 2022.
