A smoke alarm saved a family in Kiel during an early morning fire.
Crews were called to a home on Sixth Street, east of Calumet Street just after 4:30 a.m. to find heavy flames coming from the first floor.
The family was asleep upstairs and escaped after a smoke alarm woke them. The fire chief says flames extended into the basement and outside walls.
Damage is estimated at $75,000 dollars.
