Reported gunfire on the north side of Appleton this morning turns out to be a car backfiring. Police were called to the area of West Wisconsin Avenue and Durkee Street around 10:15 when witnesses thought they heard shots fired. A canvass of the neighborhood found it was actually a poorly-running vehicle.
