The daughter of a state lawmaker and her fiance might not face formal charges until next week in the overdose death of a pregnant woman.
28-year-old Cassandra Nygren and 33-year-old Shawn Gray were in Brown County court yesterday afternoon, and their bonds were set at $50,000 each. They’re in custody on two possible charges of first-degree reckless homicide by dealing drugs.
31-year-old Jennifer Skeen of Green Bay died of an overdose on June 2nd. Skeen was 30 to 33 weeks pregnant at the time.
Chief Deputy Todd Delain of the Brown County Sheriff’s department says Nygren and Gray sold heroin to Skeen. He says investigators found out through an undercover sting that they were still selling the drug after Skeen’s death.
Nygren is the daughter of Republican Rep. John Nygren of Marinette. He led the way in passing a number of laws to battle drug abuse in recent years.
