The fundraising effort to help pay for two trestle bridges in Neenah and Menasha was a grassroots effort.
Future Neenah already collected a little more than $1 million for the Loop the Lake project. The bridges will connect trails and an on-street route for a loop around the southern part of Little Lake Butte des Morts.
Future Neenah Executive Director Amy Barker says 87 percent of their donors gave $1,000 or less. She says 64% donated up to $100. She says a lot of the $1 bills and $25 donations made a difference in the overall project.
Barker says they’re still committed to raise another $75,000.
The Menasha and Neenah city councils approved a contract for the construction of the two bridges last night. They’re scheduled to open in June of next year.
