The mayors of Appleton and Neenah worked things out over the financing deal for the Fox Cities Exhibition Center.
They disagreed over Appleton’s proposal to use $1.2 million in surplus room tax money to help secure the loan.
Neenah Mayor Dean Kaufert says they’re going to let the room tax commission decide what to do. He says any time there are 10 partners involved, they have to make sure that everyone knows what’s going on. He says there’s a level of trust and respect among the communities, and they all want what’s best for the region.
Mayor Tim Hanna says now they’re asking for $750,000 instead. He says nothing is guaranteed with the commission, but they’ll talk with the members and hopefully enough of them are satisfied.
The commission meets on Monday afternoon.
The city of Appleton is working to finalize the loan for the nearly $32 million expo center in downtown Appleton.
