Oshkosh may be downgraded as a city in the eyes of the Census Bureau. The federal government is considering a reclassification of a Metropolitan Statistical Area, from locations that have 50-thousand people in a central city to those that have 100-thousand. Oshkosh City Manager Mark Rohloff says that will end up costing them money. The Census Bureau wants to create a new “Micro-politan” designation for smaller urban areas like Oshkosh and Neenah.
