Our LIFE in Motion series continues with a focus on Mental Health — 4.09 Depression and Suicide and 4.10 Youth Suicide Related Behavior. We’re taking a look at data points from the Fox Cities LIFE Study, which is a partnership between United Way Fox Cities and the Community Foundation for the Fox Valley Region.
My guests are Elizabeth Langteau, with CESA 6 and co-director of Allies in Mental Health Education and Jen Parsons is the Wellness Screen Program Director with Samaritan Counseling Center of the Fox Valley. The timing of our conversation today is really perfect, as we’ve recently learned that five Calumet County school districts are going to begin offering school-based mental health/wellness screenings and counseling services thanks to a grant from the Basic Needs Partnership through the Community Foundation for the Fox Valley Region. The program is called THRIVE Calumet and Elizabeth and Jen explain how it will impact mental health support services for families in Calumet County.
For 20 years, the Gresham community has set the example for what it means to be a generous community. The Gresham Scholarship Fund provides graduating seniors with an opportunity to qualify for a scholarship. Their fund recently hit a huge milestone, $1 million raised over the last 20 years, to help pay for secondary education. We’re learning more about this from Esther Schutt, treasurer for the scholarship fund.
