Georgia-based Neenah Incorporated in Appleton will close in September but Neenah Mayor Dean Kaufert doesn’t think that will impact the plant in his community.
Kaufert says he’s called corporate leaders asking for an update. In the meantime, Kaufert says he’s talked with current employees who say there’s up to 16 open positions at the Neenah plant. They tell him employees at the Appleton plant can transfer to those spots.
Still, Kaufert calls this a hit in the gut for the Fox Valley. He spoke with Outagamie County Executive Tom Nelson about hosting a summit with local leaders and state officials to see if there’s anything government can do to keep the paper industry in the area.
About 300 jobs in the Appleton plant will be lost.
